Colorado degree grandfathering deadline - action requested

This e-mail is to state nurse anesthetist association presidents, with a copy to state government relations committee chairs, the AANA’s Board of Directors, Government Relations Committee, AANA staff directors and State Government Affairs Division staff:

A Colorado law enacted approximately 10 years ago includes a graduate degree requirement for advanced practice nurses (APNs), including CRNAs.  Under this law, beginning July 1, 2008, “the requirements for inclusion in the advanced practice registry [includes CRNAs] shall include successful completion of a graduate degree in the appropriate specialty; except that individuals who are included in the registry as of June 30, 2008, but have not successfully completed such degree, may thereafter continue to be included in the registry and to use the appropriate title and designation."

A link to the notice regarding this requirement (which provides more detail and application information) has been posted on the member home page of the AANA website at http://aana.com/MemberHome.aspx and under State Issues > News.  The notice will also be published in the March issue of the AANA NewsBulletin.  We would appreciate it if you could also notify your state members of this posting if possible, either via your state association website, newsletter, e-mail, by mentioning it at a state meeting, or by any other means you prefer.

We appreciate your assistance in notifying members regarding this deadline.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
