Charles Hill
Jim Hill was
born August
26, 1947 in
Biloxi,
Mississippi.
He was a
gift of God
to his
parents,
Harold James
and
Catherine
Fay (Bates)
Hill. Jim
was born
again as a
chosen and
redeemed
child of God
through Holy
Baptism as
an infant.
Afterwards,
his family
moved to
Mineral
Wells,
Texas, where
Jim publicly
confirmed
his faith in
his Savior
at Our Lady
of Lourdes
Catholic
Church.
Since moving
to Oklahoma
in 1977, Jim
and his
wife, Karen,
have been
active
members and
Christ
followers at
First
Presbyterian
Church and
McFarlin
Methodist
Church, both
of Norman,
Oklahoma.
After
graduation
from Mineral
Wells High
School, Jim
graduated
from
University
of North
Texas with a
Bachelor of
Science
degree.
Later he
graduated
with honors
from the
University
of Texas
with a
Bachelor of
Science
degree in
nursing.
Then after
an intensive
24-month
post-graduate
program in
nurse
anesthesia,
Jim
graduated
second in
his class
with both
nurse
anesthetist
and advanced
nurse
practitioner
certification.
Professionally,
Jim taught
math and
science at
St. Andrews
Catholic
School, Fort
Worth, TX.
from
1971-1972.
He then
worked five
years as an
operating
room nurse
at St.
Joseph
Hospital,
Fort Worth,
TX. After
moving to
Oklahoma,
Jim served
as part of
Norman
Anesthesia
Associates,
1977-1992,
and then as
staff
anesthetist
at Norman
Regional
Hospital
from
1992-1997.
Jim's other
professional
certifications
included the
following:
Neonatal
Resuscitation
Provider,
Advanced
Cardiac Life
Support,
membership
in the
American
Association
of Regional
Anesthesia,
Oklahoma
Nurses
Association,
and the
American
Association
of Nurse
Anesthetists
(CRNA).
Jim was
married to
Karen Hill
on June 2,
1973 at St.
Paul
Lutheran
Church, Fort
Worth,
Texas. In
addition to
being a
faithful and
loving
husband and
dad, Jim was
generously
and
passionately
interested
in making
life better
for others,
both mankind
and animals.
He sponsored
numerous
inner-city
and
third-world
children
(Compassion
International),
as well as
actively
helped with
the Second
Chance
Animal
Sanctuary.
University
of Oklahoma
sports were
another
special
interest for
Jim.
In His
grace, the
Lord called
Jim into
eternal life
on Saturday,
June 6, 2009
at the age
of 61 years.
Those who
remain to
grieve his
death, yet
who rejoice
in his
eternal life
are Jim's
wife of 36
years, Karen
Hill, of
Norman, OK.
He is also
survived by
two
daughters,
Holly Hill
of Norman,
OK, and
Heather Sher
and husband,
Rob, of
Tulsa, OK
who are
expecting
Jim's first
grandchild,
Ellison
Kate; one
sister and
brother-in-law,
Sharon
Howell and
husband
Danny, of
Mineral
Wells, TX.
Other
survivors
include his
brother-in-law
Lonnie L.
Hill, Jr.
and wife,
Fran, of
Odessa, TX;
Rev. Art
Hill and
wife, Kim,
of Tyler,
TX;
sister-in-law
Sharon Poole
and husband,
Mike, of
Balch
Springs, TX,
as well as
numerous
uncles,
aunts and
cousins.
The family
extends its
deepest
gratitude to
those
members of
the staff at
Norman
Regional
Hospital who
performed
heroic
efforts to
save Jim's
life in
2008. We are
especially
indebted to
Dr. Stephen
Lindsey, Dr.
Kathy Dagg
and the NRH
nursing
staff on
4-West.
Special
thanks also
to the staff
of Lifecare
Oklahoma
Home Health
Care and
Hospice.
Jim's body
was lovingly
committed to
its final
earthly
resting
place on
Monday, June
8, in Warren
Cemetery,
there to
await the
return of
his Savior
and the
resurrection
of all
mankind on
the Last
Day. A
memorial
service will
be held at
McFarlin
United
Methodist
Church at
11:00 a.m.
the same
day.
If desired,
memorials
may be made
to McFarlin
United
Methodist
Church -
Lifeline,
Norman, OK;
Second
Chance
Animal
Sanctuary
Norman, OK;
or the
American
Cancer
Society.
This is the
earthly
