In Loving Memory
James Charles Hill

Jim Hill was born August 26, 1947 in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a gift of God to his parents, Harold James and Catherine Fay (Bates) Hill. Jim was born again as a chosen and redeemed child of God through Holy Baptism as an infant. Afterwards, his family moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, where Jim publicly confirmed his faith in his Savior at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Since moving to Oklahoma in 1977, Jim and his wife, Karen, have been active members and Christ followers at First Presbyterian Church and McFarlin Methodist Church, both of Norman, Oklahoma.

After graduation from Mineral Wells High School, Jim graduated from University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree. Later he graduated with honors from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Then after an intensive 24-month post-graduate program in nurse anesthesia, Jim graduated second in his class with both nurse anesthetist and advanced nurse practitioner certification.

Professionally, Jim taught math and science at St. Andrews Catholic School, Fort Worth, TX. from 1971-1972. He then worked five years as an operating room nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Worth, TX. After moving to Oklahoma, Jim served as part of Norman Anesthesia Associates, 1977-1992, and then as staff anesthetist at Norman Regional Hospital from 1992-1997. Jim's other professional certifications included the following: Neonatal Resuscitation Provider, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, membership in the American Association of Regional Anesthesia, Oklahoma Nurses Association, and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA).

Jim was married to Karen Hill on June 2, 1973 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to being a faithful and loving husband and dad, Jim was generously and passionately interested in making life better for others, both mankind and animals. He sponsored numerous inner-city and third-world children (Compassion International), as well as actively helped with the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary. University of Oklahoma sports were another special interest for Jim.

In His grace, the Lord called Jim into eternal life on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the age of 61 years. Those who remain to grieve his death, yet who rejoice in his eternal life are Jim's wife of 36 years, Karen Hill, of Norman, OK. He is also survived by two daughters, Holly Hill of Norman, OK, and Heather Sher and husband, Rob, of Tulsa, OK who are expecting Jim's first grandchild, Ellison Kate; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon Howell and husband Danny, of Mineral Wells, TX. Other survivors include his brother-in-law Lonnie L. Hill, Jr. and wife, Fran, of Odessa, TX; Rev. Art Hill and wife, Kim, of Tyler, TX; sister-in-law Sharon Poole and husband, Mike, of Balch Springs, TX, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to those members of the staff at Norman Regional Hospital who performed heroic efforts to save Jim's life in 2008. We are especially indebted to Dr. Stephen Lindsey, Dr. Kathy Dagg and the NRH nursing staff on 4-West. Special thanks also to the staff of Lifecare Oklahoma Home Health Care and Hospice.

Jim's body was lovingly committed to its final earthly resting place on Monday, June 8, in Warren Cemetery, there to await the return of his Savior and the resurrection of all mankind on the Last Day. A memorial service will be held at McFarlin United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. the same day.

If desired, memorials may be made to McFarlin United Methodist Church - Lifeline, Norman, OK; Second Chance Animal Sanctuary Norman, OK; or the American Cancer Society.

This is the earthly record of James Charles Hill. The heavenly record now reads:
"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, that they may rest from their labors. The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.
