Oklahoma CRNA Prescriptive Authority, OBNDD, and DEA Practice Guidelines

 

For ALL CRNAs practicing in Oklahoma:

 

Oklahoma Board of Nursing Prescriptive Authority

●      Approval for authority to select, order, obtain and administer drugs requires current licensure in Oklahoma as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

●      You will only be able to submit an application for authority once your APRN license has been granted.

●      Initial application:

○      Must upload documentation verifying completion of a minimum of 15 units of continuing education in advanced pharmacology related to the administration of anesthesia as recognized by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) or within an approved nurse anesthetist education program within the two-year period immediately preceding the date of application. In addition, an official transcript of the initial CRNA education must be submitted from the nurse anesthetist educational program, if not already on file at the Board office.

●      Renewal:

○      Occurs at time of APRN and RN license renewal in-even numbered years on month of birth

○      Submit documentation of a minimum of eight (8) units of continuing education, completed during the previous two (2) years, in advanced pharmacology relating to the administration of anesthesia, as recognized by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists or the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.

○      “DEA and OBNDD Registration: The CRNA with authority to order, select, obtain and administer Schedule II-V drugs shall comply with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements and state of Oklahoma requirements prior to prescribing controlled substances [OAC 485:10-18-5(c)].”

●      On the left side dashboard select application for newly applying or renewal

●      Each facility you practice at must be on file with the OBNDD

○      This can be completed on your individual registration portal, left side dashboard under requests

●      Current Cost: $152

●      Must be completed before applying for DEA license because you need your OBNDD number to apply for DEA license

●      Renewal:

○      Annual

○      All registrations expire October 31st. New registrations approved prior to July 1st will expire October 31st of the same year. Registrations approved July 1st or after will expire the following year.

DEA

●      For new applications click the link below and select new application. Under Section 2 you will choose Mid-Level Practitioner under Form 224. Further down under Select One Business Activity, under the drop-down select activity, choose MLP - Nurse Practitioner

●      You will need your Oklahoma BON prescriptive authority and APRN license, and OBNDD license before applying for your DEA license
