Anesthesia Professional Liability: Recent Trends & Risk Management - B. Thomas

The learner will be able to:

• Explain the legal ramifications of the top ten anesthesia lawsuits.

Anatomy and Physiology of Pain - T. Baribeault

The learner will be able to:

• Describe the path that pain signals travel through the nervous system.
• Discuss the neurotransmitters involved in the transmission of pain and how current medications affect them.
• List the changes to the nervous system that surgery causes and leads to post-operative pain.

*Pain Management for Highly Opioid Tolerant Patients - T. Baribeault

The learner will be able to:

• Describe the pathophysiology of common chronic pain conditions and the pharmacologic treatments for them.
• Describe the etiology of chronic post-surgical pain and the pharmacologic therapies used to prevent it.
• Discuss pharmacologic strategies to treat pain in the patient who is a chronic opioid user or on medical therapy for opioid addiction.

• Summarize the concept of leading up and how it can be utilized in clinical practice to improve outcomes.
